Here at Team America Fitness we believe in a very holistic approach to
health and fitness. The term holistic refers to a program that encompasses
all aspects of fitness. We know from our many years of experience that if
there is a hole in your program something will suffer. Flexibility is a
major component of fitness that is neglected in most workout programs.
At Team America we make sure that every client understands that without a
flexibility routine in their program they will be missing a large piece of
the puzzle. Flexibility must be looked at as a continuum and must be treated
as important as strength training. There are different types of stretching
and a different time in the workout to do each type.
First there is self-myofascial release (foam rolling), which we have every client do before
his or her workout begins. Foam rolling works like acupressure to break down
knots (adhesions) and scar tissue, it also warms the tissue that is to be
stretched.
Next there is static stretching to elongate muscle tissue that is
in a shortened state. This is where the client holds the stretch for 20-30
seconds to actually change the muscle length. Lastly there is active and
dynamic stretching; these are forms of stretching to stretch the muscle
